WHY UPGRADE THE CLUTCH?
Our customers ask us why is it essential to upgrade the clutch. The reason is because the stock clutches are simply not very good. In some Buggies you can see an increase of up to 40% in power just by changing the stock clutch. Our top dealers always keep performance clutches in stock and know that racers change these at least once a year or after two or three races depending on their use.
A clutch works using a steel drum driven from the rear pulley that spins round a set of clutch shoes (this padding comes in different non-asbestos materials and different sizes). These shoes are pivoted at one end and sprung at the other. Once spinning, the centrifugal force isn't strong enough to move the shoes against the springs, but as the RPMs increase, the shoes are thrown outwards towards the drum itself. By changing the clutch, you can increase the power and revs of the unit. You can also adjust the revs by changing the clutch springs. You can also purchase an adjustable clutch which allow you to change the setting depending on the type of use (racing vs. everyday street needs.)
